Hunting Dogs Reviews

Placing traps should be done by following some simple steps in order to install them efficiently. The very first step you must make is to walk around the area where you have losses and look for tracks, droppings and things like these. We recommend studying the paths used by predators in order to find out if the coyotes are indeed the cause for the losses.

Once you have done so, the next thing to do is to decide where the trap should be installed. Traps should always be set in open flat areas and things like wind currents, visibility and the dispersion of scent should be taken into consideration before placing a coyote trap. It is advisable to look for open places where the coyote tracks indicate that the animal milled around or stopped. These places might be on a hilltop, gate opening, crossing or fence corner.

After completing the second step and have decided where to place the trap, you must take into consideration the prevailing wind direction. Place the set upwind from the path so that the wind will carry the scent stream across the path where the scent can be picked up by the very efficient coyote nose and followed to the set.

Step four, choosing a level spot as close as possible to the path of the coyote. The set must be placed so that the animal’s approach is either open ground or over level, never downhill or uphill, it should always be level and never over tail grass, weeds, sticks, rough ground or dry leaves. Once you have established the site, place the set by using two traps.
